Challenge #150 at Stampin' Sisters in Christ

This week at Stampin' Sisters in Christ our new challenge (#150) is quite simple:

Use torn paper somewhere somehow in your design!

Our creative hostess this week is PeggySue!

The theme verse from the Bible that she chose is
"The veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom." Matthew 27:51

And our very generous sponsor, Inspired Stamps, is offering a prize of a $15 store credit to one randomly drawn winner, chosen from all of our participants this week.

For my card this week I made a birthday card for one of my son-in-laws. Now that its done I'm thinking it looks just a bit too Christmas-y....what do you think? I think the gold cord is what does it for me!
But using the torn paper was really fun...and really easy! What a nice surprise!

And I  am really looking forward to reading what PeggySue has to say in her devotional about that Bible verse! The veil being torn like that...from top to bottom...is very significant. It meant so many things, here's just a few I can think of: 1) God Himself performed the act of tearing the veil apart, indicating He was completely satisfied with Christ's perfect sacrifice;  2) the way to the Holy of Holies (and to God Himself) was now open to all believers because of Christ's finished work;  3) the old ceremonial laws of the temple have been replaced by the new law of love and faith in Jesus Christ. Scholars have written much about this amazing happening! If you want to read what our very own resident "scholar" has to say please hop over to our main blog, SSiC, or visit her blog (PeggySue's)...just click on her name in my sidebar.

So, won't you join us for our easy challenge this week?
Remember, for this challenge you must simply use the torn paper technique (just tear paper with your fingers and use it somehow on your card, but it must be torn, not cut).
Thanks for stopping by today! And thanks PeggySue for a fun and interesting challenge!

CAS Challenge @ SSiC This Week!

Yup...a CAS challenge! And for me that can really be a CHALLENGE! I'm the kind of cardmaker that just can't quite quit "tweeking" and adjusting every little element on my cards. If I'm not completely happy with a card I guess I think it needs something more...not less. But when I do manage to actually make a CAS (clean and simple) card, I LOVE them! Go figure!
So, as I said, our challenge this week (#149) is to make a CAS card.
And our talented hostess is Michelle!
Our generous sponsor is A Day for Daisies and they are offering a Gift Voucher of $12
to one randomly chosen winner from all entrants!

The Bible verse that inspired Michelle to choose the CAS theme is:

"For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:30

And here is my CAS card using one of the amazing images from A Day for Daisies.

The image is called "Mama Hugs". Cute, huh?
I colored the image with colored pencils.
The tiny-heart-embossed background is from a Cuttlebug folder.
And I added 3 little "baby" buttons to finish it off.

Thanks for stopping by today! Please stop by the main challenge blog: http://stampinsistersinchrist.blogspot.com/  to read a little devotional by Michelle and see all of the other DT (stampin' sisters!) cards. Hopefully you will be inspired to join in this challenge this week!
Looking forward to seeing your beautiful creations!

Here is my take on this challenge...a b-day card for my 2nd daughter, Christin, who is an excellent example of being "salt"! She is a very committed Christian and is careful to show it in all areas of life. I'm in awe of her! And thank God for her and her wonderful testimony!

Summery Magnolia Tag

Here's something unusual for me: NOT a card! This time I made a tag...it was supposed to be for a challenge that required something besides a card, but Miss Procrastination here, didn't finish on time! So now I will enter it only in two other challenges that I still have plenty of time to participate in! Here they are:

Back

Front
This little tag is about 3x6. The front has a watercolor painted background (except the tan at the bottom is REAL beach sand) with the "Vacation" stamped in gray Memento ink. The Maggie is "Hawaiian Tilda" (I think!) and she is colored with Copics and Promarkers, and highlighted with Stickles. The flower is from StampingScrapping Design...a "Gardenia".
The back of the card has Imaginesce print cardstock, buttons and gems from my stash and the "To Do" list is computer generated (then die cut with Spellbinders Labels 15).
Thanks for stopping by today!
Bye for now!

God's LOVE Commandment!

Very familiar verse this week at WordArt Wednesday! A favorite for all Christians...hopefully!
Very simple answer to questions on how God wants us to live and relate to Him, to others and to the world around us. Simple and profound!

Every Sunday when the law of God is read in my church the summary of that law is also read which is:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.   Deut. 6:5

and

'Love your neighbor as yourself."
There is no commandment greater than these.
                                                                     Mark 12:31

Just a simple card so the emphasis stays on this great Bible verse.
I am entering this card in their challenge at WAW and one other.

SSiC "Plan" Challenge

Hello, Friends! I’m back again today with another challenge from the Stampin’ Sisters in Christ challenge blog! The title of this challenge is “Follow This Plan”. What plan? Well, I will explain that below. First, here is my card…the one I made for our DT to (hopefully!) provide a little inspiration for others to join in this week’s challenge.

Okay, here are all the specifics for this challenge (#147):

Hostess: the many-talented MariLynn!

Bible Verse she chose: Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” NIV

Theme: “Follow This Plan”

Requirements: Here is the PLAN! You must use (at least) ONE circle or oval + (at least) TWO DP’s (design papers) + (at least) ONE embellishment. That’s not too hard to do! You have until 11:59 PM Saturday, July 14 to enter! One random winner will receive a prize from our…

Generous Sponsor: Doodle Pantry digital images and papers
I have used one of their pre-colored digital images from the set called “Bunny Friends” and the sentiment is also from the same set. I love the ease of using their images because 1) I was very short on time and didn’t have to color this one, and 2) the images and sentiments can be resized to fit any layout!

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses, an excellent one to remember when facing an unknown future…which is what we all do every day(!)… but especially when we go through trials and perhaps feel that God has forgotten us or no longer cares about us. I like to print this verse on graduation cards to remind the graduate that God DOES have a plan for them and goes with them into a sometimes scary or demanding future. For many different situations this is a wonderful verse to encourage and give hope…after an accident, a job lay-off, a sudden illness, a chronic illness, or even a promotion or graduation. The implication in the first part of the verse is that we must TRUST God…HE knows the plan and the future…WE don’t really need to know it…we just need to trust HIM…and His all-sufficient love and grace. Now that’s a GOOD PLAN!

Please join us this week and enter a card or project in our challenge! You can also visit the other DT “sisters” for more inspiration/ideas by clicking on their names in my sidebar. And MariLynn has a few devotional thoughts to read on her site, as well as the main blog:
Stampin’ Sisters in Christ.

My List of Ingredients:
DP's - the stripe is The Paper Studio, the dark brown print is from my stash,
the aqua and white cardstock are also Paper Studio
Circle die cut - Spellbinders, Standard Circles Lg.
Digital image & sntiment - "Bunny Friends" by Doodle Pantry
Glitter glue - Stickles "Star Dust"
Flowers - StampingScrapping Design "Color Me, White"
colored with aqua Promarker and watercolor paints
Buttons and rhinestone heart - from my stash

Thanks for stopping by today! If you have the time, please leave a comment and let me know you were here...I LOVE to hear from you all!

SSiC Challenge #146 "Use Something New!"

Good Morning!
A blessed Sunday to you all!
Today begins the 146th challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ!
The challenge this week is being hosted by:
Lovely Linda
and the Bible verse she chose as our theme verse is:

NEW commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:34-35

and Linda wants us to use something NEW in our project!
This can be a new technique, a new product...anything NEW to you!
For an explaination of why she chose this theme and some devotional thoughts on these verses you can go to either her blog: lovelinda@tpg.com.au or the main challenge blog at SSiC.
Enjoy!

And as always we have another generous sponsor who is offering a prize to one randomly chosen participant! Our sponsor this week is:
Digital Delights by Louby Loo
Check out their site/store! They are having a great SALE right now (through the 4th!)

My card this week is for a good friend whose birthday was yesterday...so she already has this card as you read my blog! Her name is Cindy and she actually designed the NEW dies I used for this card.
The die set is called "Card Creator" which is now being produced and sold by Spellbinders and is part of their Nestabilities line. There are 2 sets that match and each set has rectangles that are exactly proportioned for A2 cards, each rectangle is 1/4" smaller so they "nest" perfectly. But when you combine the 2 sets they are 1/8" different and nest creating a delicate 1/8" border. There are also 3 fancy die sets that match: one ribbon threader and two fancy borders. I have used both the "Card Creator A2 - Matting Basics A&B" sets and the "Card Creator - Fancy Ribbon Threader" set. On the inside of the card I used another of Cindy's newly designed dies which are called simply "ATC" (for now!) because that is the size they are. All of these sets are very new and were just featured on the Spellbinders bloghop last week. (Well, I'm not sure that the ATC's are even out yet!) If you are interested you can go to Cindy's store website and take a look: http://www.stampingscrapping.com/  (do a search for Card Creator or click on Spellbinders dies)

Here is my list of ingredients:
Stamps: "Tab Basics 2" by StampingScrapping Design
"Frou Frou" by StampingScrapping Design
"Vintage Flourishes" by Stampabilities
