Embossing on Vellum

SweetStamps challenge is asking for a technique to be used that includes parchment/vellum...piercing, embossing, etc. ON parchment/ I tried it! And I DO like the results. The white heat embossing on the vellum looks very lacey. I even used 2 of their stamps: "Queen Anne's Wildflowers Silhouette" & "Pretty Parchment Frame". I also tried a bit of piercing but that doesn't show up very well.

Here's the challenge:

Father's Day 2013

Wow! I can't believe we are heading into the 3rd week of June already! Tomorrow is Father's Day so all the "kids" will be home to celebrate Sunday evening. Just finished my FD card for my hubby. There are several challenges this week asking for a theme of "Father's Day or Masculine" so I'll be entering this one in a few.

This is a fairly simple card, but it still took me a few hours to make! The background is heat-embossed white on a light kraft. The sentiment is printed on vellum which has distressed edges...2 inks: rust and brown.

My list of supplies used:
Patterned cs - Webster's Pages & DCWV
Solid cs - my stash (probably Hobby Lobby!)
Background stamp - JustRite "Elegant Fronds"
Embossing powder - Mix'd Media Inx, white &
PSE, gold (the little heart)
Embossing ink - Tim Holtz/Ranger "clear"
Inks - Vivid, brown & Studio G, rust
Spellbinders dies - "Card Creator, Matting Basics B" &
"Standard Circles Large"
Gems - K&Company "Christmas Cheer"
Bow - embroidery floss, from stash
Vellum - from scrap box

Challenges: - #23 For or From a Father

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope all of you and the men in your lives have a wonderful Father's Day tomorrow! Blessings to you all!

Butterflies in a Jar

Happy Sunday!
So far, quite a lovely day!
The past few days I have spent several hours creating one special card...
this one, for my grandson Clayton who "graduated" from 5th grade on Friday.

Clayton is very much an outdoors boy...he loves to fish, catch frogs and toads, and collect insects. So while looking through my Magnolia stamped images I found this empty jar, the butterflies and Edwin with the butterfly net. I wanted to put some of the butterflies in the jar somehow and came up with a clear round window...the butterflies are really mounted on the inside of the card. Lining it all up correctly took a little work (and LOTS of trial and error!) but I'm happy with the results.

Edwin and the butterflies are colored with Spectrum Noir markers, Memento markers, and a few colored pencils. The Congratulations is stamped in Memento "Tuxedo Black", the sentiment on the inside is computer-generated, the Bible verse is in a generic royal blue ink.

Here are the challenges this card was created to"fit" into: - "Male Card + Use Metal" - #157 "Prayers, Blessings Encouraging Scripture" - #22 "Stripes &/or Plaid"

Spellbinders dies - "Standard Circles Large"
Sizzix embossing folder - "Tim Holtz Dot Matrix"
Card stock (scraps) -American Crafts "Soho Garden" & DCWV "Nana's Nursery"
Foil - coffee can seal
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Congrats stamp - Stampabilities
Magnolia stamped images - Edwin with Net, Jar, Butterflies
Verve Bible verse - 1 Peter 5:7

For a Graduate

A Graduation Card for a Young Teen Girl

A quick post today! My 13 year old grandaughter is graduating from 8th grade this week. This little card is for her! She, like many of her friends, likes to occasionally put bright feathers or hair "extenders" in her feathers are a good choice for her. I followed a sketch/card design from Case Study:
(which happens to be very similar to the Mojo Monday sketch!)

The tips of the feathers are colored in the sample and mine have Stickles behind the tips, which you can't see in my photo...sadly. For the circle card I used 2 Spellbinders dies: Standard Circles Large and Large Scalloped Circles. The feathers are from my stash of odds and ends; the sentiment is computer-generated; lots of tiny adhesive foam squares were used to seperate all the layers; white cardstock is Bazzill.
Challenges: - Congratulations Graduate!
