CAS Non-Traditional Christmas Card

Just a quick post this afternoon. I need a nap! I've been fighting a cold for a whole week now...and I'm really ready to be done with it! Not a very patient patient! (sorry!)
Here is another Christmas card in non-traditional colors....I went way outside my comfort zone on this one. But I do love that background paper with the doily/snowflake print.

I followed a sketch for this one (see below) which made it super easy. I used vellum so the pretty design in the background could show through. The embossing is done in both silver and gold so it has a varigated look and matches the background better...that warm gray was not doing well with plain silver.
So thanks for stopping by today! Here's what I used to make this one:
cardstock - "Original" by Authentique Paper
vellum - "Dots Vellum" by Paper Studio
die - "Labels 4" by Spellbinders
stamp - "Merry Christmas" by Stampabilities
embossing powder - gold & silver by PSE
brads - "White Snowflake" by Making Memories

Tilda having some winter fun...

A wintery red, white and blue card...which wasn't really my intention but it turned out that way! Those colors compliment each other so nicely. And I think Tilda especially likes them! Please ignore the fact that she is out in the snow with only socks on...no boots! Silly girl!

This photo catches the shine of the foil paper, the metallic paint and the pearl embossing.

Here's my list of products used:
Dies - "Catalina Wreath" by Memory Box
"Garden Gate" by Cheery Lynn Designs
Punches - snowflakes (purchased on ebay, brands ??)
Stamps - "Christmas Glamour" by TPC Studio
"Merry Christmas" by Stampin' Up
"Tilda Wants a Hug" by Magnolia
(colored with alcohol ink markers)
Cardstock - all from my stash
Embossing powder - "PearLustre, white" by Stampendous
Glitter glue - "Icicle" by Stickles/Ranger
Acrylic Paint Dabber - "Metallics, Pearl" by Adirondack

CAS Christmas Card

I used a simple sketch for this one. It is the one on Technostamper this week,
the Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge #291:

And here is the inside. Just a Bible verse. Perfect.

Christmas in Red and Green

Here is a Christmas card in the traditional colors of Christmas...red & green.
This straight-on photo shows the colors best.

This angled shot shows the glitter/Stickles best!

Ingredients:
Stickles - green, red, and Icicle
Stamps - "Elegant Scrollwork Frame" by SweetStamps and
"Poinsettia" by PSX
Both stamps are colored with alcohol markers and colored pencils.
Sentiment stamp - "Merry Christmas" by Stampin' Up

Cardinal Christmas

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends!
Today was a busy, fun-filled family day here at our house! I hope you all enjoyed a blessed Thanksgiving Day with your family and/or friends! I also hope you had time to reflect on all the things in your life you can be thankful for.  I know God has blessed me is so many ways...but I am especially thankful for my family, my church, my health....my spiritual health in particular! I can say without a doubt that I am heaven-bound because Jesus bought and paid for me with His death on the cross and has given me such an amazing life here and now, with the hope of heaven awaiting me. That's a whole lot to be thankful for! Leave me a comment and let me know what YOU are thankful for today!

So here is my Christmas card for the weekly challenge at SweetStamps this week!
This is my last week as Guest Designer on their blog. Its been a fun and busy month!
They have such great products in their store...its been amazing to be able to showcase some of them for you!
This week's challenge started on Tuesday. It is #145 "The Holidays".
You still have four days to enter, so why not pop over to the SS blog and get inspired by the DT samples and then get creative...and join the challenge! There is a nice prize you could win too!

For this card I used the SweetStamps stamp set called "Cardinal Pair & Warm Wishes".
I colored the image with alcohol markers, colored pencils and ink. Then I added some Stickles for sparkle in two colors: "Crystal" & "Holly".
The dies I used are the "Standard Circles Lg" by Spellbinders and the "Catalina Wreath" by Memory Box.
The background layer with the grid design is also shimmery with Smooch Spritz in a lime green. The green base card stock is stamped with pale green and white ink using an evergreen tree from Stampin' Up.
The card stock is mostly scraps from my stash, as are the gold twine and the sequins.
I used a sketch from the Technostamper blog:

Vintage-Look Embossing

Its Sunday evening...I've got just a few minutes before heading off to church so here is a really quick post!
This sympathy card was made for the "Anything Goes" challenge* at SweetStamps
where I am the November Guest Designer.

I have used several SweetStamps items to create the delicate look here:
Stamps - "With Sympathy", "Rose Corner Lg", "Vertical Rose Border",
"Scroll Shadow Box Frame", and
the ArtsyfArtsy "Swirly Doodle Butterflies".
I also used the new Piccolo "Vintage Copper Enamel Powder" for the lovely metalic embossing.

*Oops! I thought I had another day yet but that challenge ends tonight, so it wouldn't make sense for me to post it on their blog any more. Oh well, I'll have another card to add in a few days for the next challenge!

Using Clear Micro Beads

Hello, and happy Thursday to you all!
Today I'm showcasing a technique I'd never tried before...using micro beads. What an interesting and pretty texture the tiny glass beads create! Makes it look so dimensional.
This is the new technique for the monthly challenge at SweetStamps which runs from Nov. 15 through Dec. 15. The beads are just called "Glass Beads" by Judi-Kins*.

This Christmas card is made with non-traditional colors...rather out of my comfort zone! But I like the icey look the micro beads bring to the design.

Looking at the image of the bells from different angles shows the demensional, icey look a bit better.
What doesn't show up well is the glossy surface I added to the background frame...the whole pale pink area surrounding the wreath. I gave it a coating of Glastique Dementional Finishing Glaze* after coloring it with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers.

and here are the other items I used:
Stamps - "Bells"* and "Scroll Shadow Box Frame"* from SweetStamps
Sentiment from Stamping Scrapping Design
Dies - "Catalina Wreath"* from Memory Box
"Standard Circles Lg" from Spellbinders
"Terrifically Tacky Tape" from Provo Craft
Flatback pearls - "Peach" from Pizzazz Aplenty

Check out the SweetStamps blog for more details and inspiration!
Then join in the challenge for a chance to win a very nice prize!
All of the items marked with the * are things I got at the SweetStamps.com online store

Give Thanks to the LORD...

"Give thanks to the LORD for He is good."
                                                   Psalm 136:1

Here is the next card I made especially  for SweetStamps as a November Guest Designer.
And that is the verse I used on the  front of my card for the new weekly challenge: "Thanks".
It is a SweetStamps stamp and the two dies I used are also theirs! They are "Elegant Leaves" and "Classy Deer".
There is a song in the 'Psalter Hymnal' called "Give Thanks to God, for Good is He" that is based on Psalm 136. It is one of my favorites. It goes on to say "His mercy faileth never...His grace abideth ever". So wonderfully true.
I am using this as a Thanksgiving card which I plan to mail to my family in Wisconsin. I have not finished the inside yet so we shall see if I get this mailed on time. Sad to say I am notorious for getting cards in the mail one day late...very consistently!

This was a fun card to make. I made a stencil of heavy card stock and inked the bottom layer of the leafy wreath with an orangish ink (Studio G "Spice") then die cut 3 more colors of the leaves to arrange in the wreath shape. For delicate die cuts like this I use spray adhesive. Some of the leaves have Stickles added in gold and crystal.

The deer is one of my newest dies and I've used it with glitter card stock from the Paper Studio. The very first time I visited the SweetStamps online store I knew I wanted that die...and I finally got it! I'm looking forward to making some elegant Christmas cards with it.
The Bible verse is stamped in "Walnut Stain", a TH Distress ink.
The cream color background print is from the "Vintage Moon" set by Pink Paislee.
I hope you have time to stop by the SweetStamps blog to see all of the wonderful creations made by the Design Team. And once you are inspired, we'd love to have you join the challenge with YOUR creation! Each week they give a generous prize of a $20 shopping spree for SweetStamps merchadise at their online store!

A B-Day Card with a Little Humor

One of my friends loves humorous cards so I had to  really dig through my stamps to find one that would work for her. The sentiment isn't necessarily "birthday"...but I made it into a birthday card anyway!
It is another center-step card too.

The old fashioned lady is a digital image I got from Free Vintage Digital Images. I added the glass of wine in her hand and photo-shopped out a handful of shamrocks she was previously holding. Choosing red as my accent color may not have been the best choice...red and green together always makes me think it looks like a Christamas card! Oh well...its done!

I love the step card design...its easy but looks classy!

If you can't quite read what it says on the inside, here it is:
"The other glasses are for my witty comebacks and flawless dance moves."
Perfect for the special someone I'm giving it to today!
(The wine glasses are also digi images I found on the internet that I recolored).

The sentiment is printed from my computer,
the cardstock is Paper Studio,
the die cut (leaves) is "Olive Branches" from SweetStamps,
the square die cut is Spellbinders "Labels 4",
the pearly dots are Ranger Liquid Pearls "Platinum".

SweetStamps Guest Designer!

Good morning, Friends!
Today I'm posting a special card I made for the SweetStamps blog (AND for my brother's birthday, of course!)....as a Guest Designer for the month of November! I think its an honor to be asked to be a Guest Designer so I'll be putting extra effort into my card creating this month!
Here's the first one:

This is a center-step card which is the monthly technique challenge going on at SweetStamps from Oct.15-Nov.14. But I am also combining it with the weekly challenge: Nature

The instructions for making a center-step card are included on the SweetStamps blog...well, all you need to do is click on a word and the instructions show up! Easy-peasy! If you have never tried a step card I would recommend trying this one...its quite easy and the results are amazing!

The lovely tree stamp I used is a SweetStamps stamp "Tree #1"...as is the "old fashioned wish" sentiment.  And the picket fence on the front of the card is a CheeryLynnDesigns die "Garden Gate" which I also purchased at the online SweetStamps store.
The "Happy Birthday" on the front is an Inkadinkadoo stamp, and the Bible verse inside is a Verve stamp.
Other ingredients:
Circle die - Spellbinders "Anglaise Lace"
Ink - TH Distress "Walnut Stain"
Cardstock - from my stash
Colored pencils
Metallic stud embellishments - Michaels
Leaves - REAL nature!

A Collage Frame...I Love it!

The stamp of the collage frame is another SweetStamps stamp...called "Scroll Shadow Box Frame". I stamped it in Memento "London Fog" (gray) on white cs and fussy-cut around it. That is mounted on a speckled gray and then its all mounted on a plain white background.

This card is supposed to be for a bridal shower...but I don't have a single stamp that says anything about a shower. At least one I can find today! What do you think...does it work for a bridal shower card?

Here's my list of the rest of the ingredients:
Stamps- CDS "Medallion de Fleur", Sandy Lion "Sentiments", Inkadinkadoo "Love & Friendship"
Flowers- StampingScrapping.com "Gardenia" & "Tiny"
Leaf die- Spellbinders "Foliage"
Ranger Liquid Pearls "Platinum"

Saturday Bonus

Today is Saturday...a cold, rainy November day. But since yesterday "felt" like Saturday today is a bonus day! AND because of the time change we will get an extra hour of sleep tonight!
So on this gloomy day I decided to post a card that looks more like springtime than late fall.
And this amazing Bible verse is so very encouraging...an awesome promise from God to care for His people!

Ingredients:
Cardstock - Best Creations "A Walk in the Garden" (print)
and (green & white) from my stash
Dies - Spellbinders "Fleur de Lis Accents" & "Fleur de Lis Squares"
Sentiment - FREE digi from Word Art Wednesday
Ribbon, twine and pin...from my stash

I also added a little bit of stenciled design behind the border die on the left. I used the piece of cs I had punched the border from as my stencil and a dauber with 3 colors of matching ink.
The only challenge I'm entering this card in is:

And here are the rest of the items used to make this tag:
Sentiment stamp- JustRite "Favorite Occasions Set"
Dies- Spellbinders Lg Scalloped Circles, and

Embossing and Leaves

Here is a pretty sympathy card with pearly embossing of a frame and a bouquet of fall flowers and leaves in the center. The brown background paper also has several pale leaves...but I'm still not sure if this qualifies as a "Fall" card or not. I guess not all leaves turn red, orange or yellow in the fall...some just turn brown!

Ingredients:
Card stock - g.c.d. studios "Raleigh"
Stamps - SweetStamps "Queen Anne's Wildflowers", "With Sympathy", "Pretty Parchment Frame"
Pearls - KaiserCraft Basics "Snow"
Embossing Powder - Stampendous "PearLustre" white
Ink - TH Distress "Walnut Stain"
Ribbon and twine- from my stash

Trick or Treat!

We don't do much for Halloween around here but we do get a few "trick-or-treaters" that stop by. October 31 is also my mom's birthday but I will make her a nice card for that next week. This card is just for fun!
AND for the SweetStamps monthly challenge: "Paper-Piecing" along with several Halloween challenges.

I used an old set of stamps I have from StampingScrapping.com called "Best Witches"...it is still a favorite even though I don't get to use it much. I paper-pieced the pumpkin, the leaf, the hat and the upside-down paper bag. The legs and shoes are colored with alcohol markers. The black ink I stamped my images with is Memento "Tuxedo Black". Also added a little Stickles "Star Dust". The print background cs is Imaginesce "Wicked Whimsy". All the rest of the cs is from my stash. Paper-piecing is a great way to use scraps!

Best Wishes Border Card

The theme for the challenge at SweetStamps this week is "Borders" so I used an unusual (& unbranded) stamp I picked up at a garage sale for 50 cents. It looks like half of a border so I stamped it in both directions, end to end and I'm actually happy with the result! Both stamped images are colored with colored pencils.

The pretty butterfly stamp is from SweetStamps called "Crown Butterfly"....a favorite!
The "Best Wishes" is a cheap little generic that doesn't stamp well.
The die cut border is Spellbinders "Fleur de Lis Accents" and the
circle die cut is "Exquisite Circles".
Ivory cs is Cryogen, print is Imaginesce.
Rhinestones are KaiserCraft "Ice Blue".
Ribbon and twine...from my stash.

Roses

Today, just a quick post. This sympathy card was made using a new stamp I just got last week, the one with the larger roses. It is from SweetStamps, called "Vertical Roses" and I bought it a their retail store knowing it would match their other rose stamps (which I have 2 or 3 of). I like that it is a larger size of the same roses so I can get a variety of different effects with it. Here I used the small stamp to make my own background paper.

The sentiment stamp is also from SweetStamps. I stamped the images and sentiment in dark brown ink, TH Distress Ink "Walnut Stain". The flowers and leaves are colored with Memento markers and Spectrum Noir markers, then added a touch of Stickles "Star Dust". I used my new Craft-Dee Bowz bow maker too.
Cardstock, paper, ribbons...all from my stash.

Linzy's B-day Card

Yesterday I showed you John's b-day card and today...is Linzy's.

Linz is my 3rd daughter, John's older sister. Her name is really spelled Lindsey but sometime during her childhood it got shortened to Linz...thus the new spelling: Linzy. She is a total "outdoors" girl who LOVES insects, animals, plants...everything "outdoorsy"! She has several collections of mounted butterflies and moths that are absolutely beautiful! So I figured a butterfly b-day card was quite appropriate. She is also very artsy so I knew she'd like the non-traditional colors I chose too. The dark brown, which looks almost black, has a soft metalic sheen, as does the lighter brown underneath.

Ingredients:
Dies - Cheery Lynn Designs "Lace Faerie Queen, sm" (w/Angel Wing),
Spellbinders "Fleur de Lis Squares" (over a year old)
Sentiment Stamp - Woodware "Leafy Swirls"
Card stock - DCWV "Latte" & "Immortal Love",
textured white is from my stash

Happy B-day....Western Style

Now this card was rather a challenge for me...I don't do "western" cards very often! I don't have any western stamps even...just a few digis. So I used a few Doodle Pantry digis and a horse that I "gleaned" from the internet.

Happy Birthday Cowboy!
You would be amazed how long it took me to make this simple card! Too much rethinkiing, and rearranging! Yikes! And all because I wanted to participate in the challenge at SweetStamps this week!

So here is what I used:
Digital images from Doodle Pantry - Old Pistol set: "oval wire", "old pistol" & "bday"
horse image - internet 'freebie' (tweeked)
Card stock - K&Company "TC Blossomwood", Core'dinations "Chocolate Mousse", Imaginisce "Hallowhimsy", plus...stash

Masking Technique

Today I finally got busy and finished the "masking technique" card I've had on my craft table for over a week now. The SweetStamps challenge blog has weekly challenges and monthly challenges...the monthly ones are always a "technique" challenge. I really like that because I have tried several new things already!
This month the technique is MASKING. I've done this before but this time I did it very carefully and precisely...and I like how it turned out! What  do you think?

This little girl is one of my favorite Bildmalarna stamps and I masked her and stamped the fence background twice...once on each side to make a long enough fence. I colored everything except the chicks with Memento, Spectrum Noir and ProMarker markers...the chicks I had to use colored pencil.

I recently won the great little Craft-Dee Bowz bow-maker so I used that to make my lovely little bow! And it works great! Very good instructions!

So here's my list of ingredients:
Spelbinders dies- "Standard Circles Lg", "Labels 4", "Fleur de Lis Squares"
Stamps- Bildmalarna "Mimosa-Chicken", CDS "Wistful Wishes", Stampcraft "Fence"
Craft-Dee Bowz bow-maker
Markers - ProMarkers "aquas", Memento "greens & tans", Spectrum Noir "flesh tones"
Ink- Memento "Tuxedo Black", Studio G "Lt Brown"

Butterfly Birthday

Today I got to spend just a little time in my craft room...so I came up with this fairly simple card.
I say "fairly" simple because when using heat embossing and glitter, things usually get a little messy, and it did! Part of the sentiment didn't emoss completely so I had to go back in with a toothpick and glue to make the letters readable. But I love that fine glitter...it makes such a feminine card.

The border stamp used as the background is from SweetStamps called "Elegant Scrollwork Frame" and the sentiment stamp is PSX F-318. The butterfly stamp I picked up at a garage sale a few years ago...it is from Sky Kids Inc.
Other ingredients:
Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder, clear
Pastel Glitter Ultra Fine, Mint from Mark Enterprises
Colored pencils
Card stock form my stash

A Birthday Gent

Another Birthday card...this one for son-in-law, Brian. I told him the guy on the card looked quite dapper and made me think of him as an "advancing executive"...which made him laugh.
Guys' cards are much easier for me to keep CAS...clean and simple!
The guy stamp is from SweetStamps, called "Gentleman Joe" and he is backed with a scrap of kraft cs. The patterend cs is from TSP. The image is colored with Memento markers.

Happy B-day!

Just got back from camping...for almost 2 weeks...and having a little trouble getting back into a routine! I haven't posted anything since August 12...that may be a new record for me! I missed SO many challenges! But a little break is always nice just to relax and enjoy God's beautiful creation.
So today I'll be doing a few quick posts of cards I made while on vacation...YES, I brought a bunch of crafting stuff along. I just can't leave home without it! Can you say "addiction"?
This one is a birthday card I made for my youngest son, Jeff, who just turned 25 on Aug. 28.

Jeff is a fan of "Duck Dynasty", and we'll often hear him say "happy, happy, happy" like Phil on DD!
So I HAD to include that on this card...since we gave him a new DD T-shirt too!
I made this with the supplies I brought camping and have put them all away now so to make an 'ingredients list' would be a bit difficult. If you have a question about something in particular just leave me a comment and I'll get back to you. Thanks so much for stopping by today! God bless!

Floral Vine Silhouette

This week's challenge at Sweetstamps.com is to stamp a silhouette of some kind on your creation. I decided to use a stamp that is not really a solid (silhouette) type of stamp. I just stamped it in black ink and then colored it in with a black marker. The stamp is a Sweetstamps called "Art Nouveaux Verticle Border".

A very simple card which includes one of my favorite verses.

The background is painted with pearlized watercolors called "Pearlescent". There is a nice shimmer when held at the correct angle. The sentiment is a Bible verse from Verve Stamps (Ps. 46:10). And the little lavendar rhinestones are from Kaisercraft.
